About Ermelo Shotokan Karate-do
Our dojo has been in this town longer than any student who has trained here. Under it's current owner and head instructor Eugene Smith, this dojo has become a force to be reckoned with. This Dojo for many years was led by Sensei Willem Potgieter.

Sensei Wim, Training with Grandmaster Murakami
Sensei Wim Potgieter was known for his deadly left hand, that could break ribs with a single punch. He trained countless students over the years and produced SIX black belts in the last TEN years. He is sorely missed but has moved with his family and is now in New Zealand.

Since I was a kid, I started in Taekwondo, then wrestling, boxing (as my father was a boxer) and FINALLY found my calling - Karate.
Karate has changed my life for the better... I strive to share the knowledge in the hopes of inspiring and changing the lives of those I train.
Hein Fourie
Senior Assistant Instructor
Sensei Hein, a Fourth Dan has been in the game longer than anybody in the dojo. He has always been a force of overwhelming power, fortitude and discipline. Under his guidance many students both young and old have reached goals, even they thought impossible.
Jacolien De Beer
Junior Assistant Instructor
Jacolien, a soon to be black belt is an exceptional karate-ka, who for years has been one of Ermelo Shotokan Karate Academies most devout students. She has a passion for karate and teaching students. She plays an important role alongside Sensei Hein in the development of new Students.
